Fyre Festival II is apparently happening and the internet is confused

If you thought the disastrous Fyre Festival would never make a return, you thought wrong.

In a YouTube video released on Sunday, Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland announced that Fyre Festival II will take place somewhere in the Caribbean in December 2024. No other details regarding the exact location or performer’s lineup have been announced.

“Today we’re announcing Fyre Festival II,” McFarland said in the video, clad in a white bathrobe.

“This is everything I’ve been working towards. Let’s f*cking go.”

McFarland’s confirmation comes after he sent the Internet into a frenzy with a tweet he wrote earlier this year hinting at the festival’s return.

The infamous Fyre Festival made headlines in 2017 after claiming to be a glitzy event that would be attended by glamourous models and influencers on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma.

But that’s far from how it turned out.

The festival was hit with one disaster over another. Before guests even arrived, there were issues with logistics, food, performers, transportation, lodging, security, and much more.

Upon arrival, attendees- expecting a luxury event and accommodations- realized they would be staying in poorly constructed tents instead of the advertised ritzy beach villas.

The gourmet food they thought would be served ended up being a meme-worthy two slices of bread and cheese accompanied by a very sad side salad.

The entire event was quickly cancelled, leaving guests stranded and struggling to find a way back home.

McFarland was arrested and charged after being accused of defrauding over 100 investors. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud. He was released from US federal prison in 2022.

The fallout from Fyre Festival quickly took social media by storm, especially since it promised so much and ended in disaster.

There was even a Netflix documentary about the festival, which referred to it as “the greatest party that never happened.”

Rapper Ja Rule — the festival’s co-founder — spoke out, claiming that he was “bamboozled” and “led astray” by McFarland. Ja Rule was cleared of legal wrongdoing involving the festival in 2019.

Despite McFarland’s Fyre Festival failings, it looks like he’s ready to give it another go.

“It has been the absolute wildest journey to get here. And it all started during the seven-month stint in solitary confinement,” he said in the Fyre Festival II announcement video.

According to the festival’s ticket website, the first 100 tickets have already sold out.

The next tier costs US$799 and will be on sale soon. Tickets are priced up to US$7,999, leaving many wondering who would even think about going to the festival when the first one turned out to be a total trainwreck.

“Fyre Festival II tickets are all sold out. Did we not learn from Fyre Festival I?” said one commenter.

Others were quick to note that it makes no sense to have a Fyre Festival II if Fyre Festival I never even happened.

And other simply can’t wait for the Fyre Festival II documentary to come out.

Do you think Fyre Festival II will be just as terrible as Fyre Festival I?
