If you’re looking for summer work, applications are still open for Statistics Canada census jobs across the country.

The country’s national statistical agency began hiring for 32,000 census positions in December 2025 to help execute the 2026 census in May.

Even though the census officially began on May 4, Statistics Canada is still looking to fill census jobs. As you can imagine, it is a massive undertaking, collecting demographic, social and economic information from every household in the country.

“With your help, results from the 2026 Census of Population will allow us to accurately reflect Canadian society. This data will provide invaluable insights to all levels of government, as well as Canadian businesses and non-government organizations,” reads a statement from André Loranger, chief statistician of Canada, on Monday.

“It will ensure that they have access to the up-to-date information they need to plan critical services and programs such as employment, education, child care, health care, and so much more.”

The last Canadian census was conducted in 2021.

What positions is StatCan hiring for, and how much do they pay?

Statistics Canada is hiring for enumerators (non-supervisory positions) and crew leaders (supervisory positions).

Enumerators get paid $25.87 an hour and are mainly responsible for collecting completed census questionnaires from households. If you want to apply for this position, you must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week on average, with the majority of the work completed in the evenings and on weekends.

“Responsibilities include collecting data from respondents in person through door-to-door visits,” says the agency.

In addition to the hourly pay, enumerators are eligible to claim authorized expenses like mileage and parking. The employment period for this position runs from May 2026 to July 2026, depending on the position and location.

“They supervise, train, and motivate a team of enumerators conducting in-person, door-to-door visits. Crew leaders work closely with their assistants to complete these tasks,” reads the job description.

Crew leaders are also eligible to claim expenses like mileage and parking. They are employed from March 2026 to July 2026.

Both positions will also be paid an hourly rate for time spent in mandatory training.
