Calgary police say three teenagers were seriously injured after a targeted stabbing at the Stampede late Tuesday night.

Just after 11 p.m. on July 8, authorities responded to reports of an assault near the Euroslide on the Calgary Stampede Midway. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from stab wounds, who was transported to hospital in life-threatening but stable condition.

Shortly after, officers were called to two other reports of people suffering from stab wounds, a youth in the area of 17 Ave. SE and Macleod Trail SE and a man near Erlton St. SW and 27th Ave. S.

Investigators determined that both were also victims of the same assault that occurred on the Midway, and were transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.

Calgary police announced Wednesday afternoon that two of the victims were 18 years old, and another was 15 years old. All three are currently in stable condition.

Police were also not able to state what kind of weapon was used in the stabbing event, but added that they believe the individuals involved in the altercation were known to each other, and they also knew the assailants.

The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, and although no suspects have been caught police are “confident” they’ll be able to identify those involved.

“Reviewing CCTV so far, we could say there’s anywhere between eight and 10 people involved in this altercation, with three people ended up at hospital from the altercation,” police stated at a press conference.

Investigators believe a number of witnesses were present during the altercation and that some may have recorded the incident on their cellphones, and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage from the area at the time is asked to contact police.
