A passenger on board an Air Canada plane was arrested after they allegedly assaulted someone.

The Winnipeg-bound flight out of Vancouver International Airport was delayed, according to YVR, after RCMP responded to an assault on board.

RCMP said it was called in shortly after 12:15 pm Saturday to help with “an aggressive passenger.”

The report claimed that during the flight, a passenger allegedly assaulted someone they were travelling with.

“Based on the individual’s behaviours, Airline staff determined they posed a potential safety risk to staff and passengers and were restrained,” RCMP explained in a statement.

After the flight landed, Richmond RCMP boarded the plane and apprehended the passenger under Section 28 of the Mental Health Act “after a lengthy attempt to de-escalate.”

Mounties added that while officers escorted the passenger off of the flight, “they were actively resisting by biting and spitting on our officers.”

“For the safety of our officers and the public, a spit hood was placed,” RCMP Added.

The Air Canada flight experienced a two-hour delay, but YVR added that airport operations were not impacted.
