Here’s some news for Aeroplan members: there’s no need to rush to redeem your points, as Air Canada is giving customers more time.

If you’re worried about losing your Aeroplan points, Air Canada is giving customers more flexibility by extending their expiration dates. According to the website, your Aeroplan points will only expire if your account has been inactive for 18 months.

“To give you one less thing to think about, we’ve paused the expiry of Aeroplan points until Nov. 30, 2026,” reads the latest update on the Aeroplan website.

“This means that, between now and Nov. 29, 2026, any Aeroplan points which would have expired won’t. Effective Nov. 30, 2026, our normal expiration policy will apply, and points will expire if an eligible transaction has not been completed prior to this date.”

In an email to Daily Hive, an Air Canada representative said that the extension was first introduced during the pandemic.

“The suspension of Aeroplan’s points expiry policy was originally put in place in July of 2020 (during the pandemic, as customers were not able to redeem their points as usual at this time) and has been extended since then, including recently from Nov. 30, 2025, to Nov. 30, 2026,” they stated.

If you want to keep your points active and make sure they don’t expire, you can perform any of the following activities every 18 months:

  • Earning points from a purchase or a partner
  • Redeeming points for a flight, hotel, or gift card
  • Donating points to a charity
  • Transferring points to another account

Or, according to the Aeroplan website, you can earn or redeem at least one Aeroplan point within an 18-month period.

Air Canada has been making several changes to its loyalty program.

In October, the airline announced that Aeroplan members can redeem their points for cruise vacations directly through its website. And starting Jan. 1, 2026, members will earn points for every dollar spent on eligible Air Canada flights, rather than earning points based on the distance they travel.
