Welcome to Walking YYC, an insane personal project of mine rooted in understanding the meaning of community in an increasingly fractured society, by walking each and every community in the city of Calgary as defined by city census data.”

The account quickly gained popularity, with people noting what a cool project this is. Many followers have said it brings back memories of their own time in these areas, sparking nostalgia.

“This is my new fave page, love seeing my old hometown like this,” one user commented. “I am loving this series. I’m excited to see the neighbourhoods I know.”

Each video offers some insight into the neighbourhood, like when it was established, some facts, an adorable cat count, and plenty of footage showcasing what each spot has to offer. The posts have sparked joy, with people with many users sharing how they are seeing the city in a new light.

“These videos give me an indescribable amount of joy. I think when you really look at the city and try to enjoy its quirks, it’s not as bad as a lot of people claim,” one user said. “Thank you for making these. I grow to love my city more and more with each one,” another added.

Its most recent post featured Briar Hill/Housfield Heights, the 22nd neighbourhood on the list. The account shows no signs of slowing down, with plenty of neighbourhoods still left to explore.
