A beloved mountain village in Alberta just got some love from a popular international travel magazine.
Travel + Leisure spotlighted Kananaskis, describing it as a “tiny village in the Canadian Rockies” with “hundreds of miles of hiking trails, turquoise lakes, and 1,500 square miles of wilderness.”
The feature highlights the area’s mix of adventure and relaxation, from mountain hikes to wildlife encounters and the world-class Kananaskis Nordic Spa.

Among the top recommendations for places to stay included the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, known for the Nordic spa and new Black Diamond Club, as well as the Mount Engadine Lodge and Skyridge Glamping eco-cabins.

As for activities, Travel + Leisure suggests hiking Chester Lake, horseback riding at Boundary Ranch, rafting the Kananaskis River, and golfing at the Kananaskis Country Golf Course.
Restaurant recommendations for visitors included favourites like Forte Restaurant for oven-fired pizza, Blacktail Bar for its G7-themed cocktails (a nod to the global gathering that took place in the community in June), or Summit Restaurant for post-golf eats on the patio.
The mountain village was touted as a quieter alternative to Banff.
“I’ve been returning to Kananaskis for 25 years for these reasons,” said author Lisa Kadane.
“It’s a place where I can hike or camp in a mountain setting right out of the movies (The Revenant and Brokeback Mountain were filmed here), but still feel like I have the forest path or picnic spot to myself.”
