Following the discovery of a body in a Calgary backyard, the Calgary Police Service has released the identity of the deceased.

Nadia Ed-Dib, a 22-year-old Calgary resident, was murdered on Sunday, March 25.

The suspect in the Marlborough Park murder is 21-year-old Adam Bettahar. He is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder, and police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating him, as it is believed that he fled Calgary in a 2004 dark blue Ford Explorer.

Calgary police have stated in a release that an exact motive has yet to be discovered, though they believe that the Ed-Dib and Bettahar had been in a relationship for a short time before the murder occurred.

Sami El-Dib, Nadia’s father, wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday, “[It] is with the hardest regret to inform you that my daughter, Nadia El-Dib, has passed away on Sunday, March 25th, 2018. Too early from us, and her absence will forever be felt in our hearts and those who have met her.”

A funeral service to honour Nadia’s memory is planned for April 1.
