8 U-Pick berry farms to visit around Calgary this summer

Is there anything more quintessentially “summer” than berry picking? Whether you’re searching for U-Pick farms near Calgary for your next date, family outing, or berry craving, there’s plenty nearby to pick from. Pun intended.

From delicious Saskatoon berries to strawberries that’ll make your mouth water, there’s a whole lot of variety in our backyard. Prime berry season is nearly here, and if you want to get in while the picking is good, here are all the spots within two hours of Calgary to check off your list.

These are eight U-Pick farms near Calgary to satisfy your sweet tooth this summer.

Rosy Farms

This local farm lets you pick your own Haskaps (also known as “Honeyberries”). This special berry contains up to three times more antioxidants than your average berry, and that’s on top of tasting great. They also offer frozen berries, juice, jams, and treats for purchase.

Koornneef Farms

This new family-owned strawberry producer offers both U-Pick and pre-picked strawberries. The U-Pick season is weather dependent but starts approximately the second week of July and goes for about three or four weeks. Pre-picked strawberries (fall varieties) are available until frost.

Prairie Berry YYC

This family-run Saskatoon farm has been operating since 2004 and offers three different berry varieties. They’re known for plump and natural berries that can be enjoyed straight from your bucket.

Family run since 1987, this is a one-of-a-kind destination for berry picking excursions, quality produce and handcrafted fare. In addition to the U-Pick, you can also shop the on-site bakery, eat at the restaurant, or come by for one of the farm’s seasonal markets.

You’ll find this family-friendly U-Pick farm nestled along the Little Red Deer River west of Bowden. They offer a variety of fruits depending on the season, which include raspberries, cherries, and haskap.

Billyco Junction Gardens

This local organic farm offers U-Pick fruits, vegetables, and flowers, depending on the weather and season. Pick from their honeyberries, strawberries, raspberries, Saskatoon berries, black currants, Alberta (sour) cherries, and nanking cherries this summer.
