"Trader Joe's in Calgary" is trending on Twitter and here's why

So… is Trader Joe’s coming to Calgary? It seems like Twitter had many people thinking it was.

This is because “Trader Joe’s in Calgary” was a trending topic on Twitter this week, and it had users thinking that it could only mean one thing… it was finally coming up North.

Sadly, that’s not the case.

It appears someone made the mistake of comparing buying bananas in Calgary at Trader Joe’s in an odd and long tweet instead of any other store you could buy bananas at. Like, one that exists here.

Clicking on “Trader Joe’s in Calgary” and then realizing it came from a long ass boring thread from some extremely online person about bananas was the biggest letdown today.

The tweet (posted by user @hecubian_devil) read, “No one, absolutely no one—not even the most dishonest globe emoji neoliberal freak—buys a banana at Trader Joe’s in Calgary in December and marvels in ecstasy at the decadent opulence of modern capitalism. They dully cross it off their list and move on, barely conscious of it.”

Comments from users erupted in the Twitter feed, explaining their surprise, excitement, and disappointment at seeing that the topic was trending and then ultimately that it was not for the reason they had hoped.

“As a Canadian I am extremely disappointed that the trending topic, ‘Trader Joe’s in Calgary’ does not mean it’s opened in our country,” posted user @Jodie_Williams_.

This American chain of grocery stores is headquartered in Monrovia, California, and is incredibly popular all over the US.
