There are so many reasons to love Calgary — the mountains, the growing music scene, and of course the food, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some things that get on our nerves.

We’ve put together a list of eight things Calgarians complain about so you feel less alone in the struggle.

There’s nothing to do

Those winter months can feel looooong when you’re stuck inside. While Calgary is known for its awesome food scene, it sometimes feels like there’s nothing much else to do besides eat.

Big trucks

You know the ones: lifted a few feet in the air with a rude bumper sticker or two on the back and they just have to speed past when you’re trying to merge.

Calgary Transit

It’s no fun waiting out in the frigid -30° temperatures for a bus that never comes.

Road construction

How long has that stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway in front of COP been under construction anyways?

Gas prices

Living in the oil and gas capital of Canada, who would have thought it would cost so much to fill a tank of gas? It might be time to trade in the car for a bike, if only Calgary had more bike paths.

It’s not just the dry heat, blistering cold, tornado warnings or foot-deep snowfalls, it’s that we can have all of those things happen on the same day. It’s hard to keep up… or know how to dress in the morning.

Crime

It seems like there’s a new shooting or stabbing every day, and it all seems to be happening on Calgary Transit.

Why does it cost an entire paycheck to rent a one-bedroom apartment in Calgary? At this point, we all might as well move back into our parents’ basements.
