Shake Shack has a new burger only found at the Calgary Stampede Midway

While last month, we finally got eyes on the list of new food and drink that’ll be available on the Calgary Stampede midway this year, Shake Shack is throwing in a new contender that we think is going to prove very popular.

Just weeks after making its Calgary debut with its first Alberta location at the CF Chinook Centre, Shake Shack is officially Stampede-bound, bringing its Shack Truck to the midway for the first time.

It may literally be Shake Shack’s first rodeo, but it’s wasting no time getting into the spirit of things. For its debut, the burger joint will have a brand-new burger exclusive to the midway available to try, and Dished was able to get a sneak peek.

The Cowtown Burger

Introducing: the Cowtown Burger, which features 100% Alberta Angus beef smash patties, topped with crispy cheese curds, pickles and a smoky BBQ sauce. Depending on just how hungry you are, it’ll be available as a single or double patty.

With thick pickle slices and those fried cheese curds, it already ticks off a few items on the classic Stampede food bingo card, so we were excited to see how the burger would fare.

The bun was fluffy, and the patties were smashed to perfection. While it was a little heavy on the BBQ sauce (a good or bad thing depending on your preference), the pickles added some tang to cut through, and the cheese curds were chunky, meaning they were nice and crispy outside but still with that familiar squeak you know and love.

With midway prices being notoriously steep, we’re pleased to report that a single patty Cowtown Burger comes in at $11 and a double at $15. It’s a tasty burger and well-priced, which is a good enough reason to swing by when you’re on the grounds.

What else is on the menu?

Alongside the Cowtown Burger, Shake Shack will be offering a slimmed-down menu at the Stampede grounds.

Options include its Shack Burger (which can be subbed for a veggie patty), crinkle-cut fries, and its hand-spun shakes in vanilla, strawberry and cookies and cream flavours.

All the food prices are in line with what they charge in the restaurant. Given how popular the brand has been since opening, we predict some big lines for this one.
