Inside Shake Shack's first Canadian drive-thru location in Calgary
Shake Shack’s Calgary expansion is well underway with a brand-new location set to open this week, and it’s a Canadian first.
The world-renowned burger joint is set to open its newest outpost at 9253 Macleod Tr. SW on Thursday, Aug. 27, which will be home to Shake Shack’s first drive-thru in the country. So now you don’t have to leave the comfort of your car to pick up your Shack favourites.
Of course, upon hearing the news, we had to hop in the car immediately to get a sneak peek and put the drive-thru to the test.
What to expect

Similar to most drive-thru fast food restaurants that we know and love, Shake Shack’s Macleod spot has a large indoor dining space. It’s shiny and new, with Shake Shack green tiles, ample seating and a ton of light from its large windows. There’s also a hand-painted mural by local artist Larissa Schuler, depicting iconic Alberta and Shake Shack imagery.
But obviously, while the interior is important, the drive-thru here really is the main event, with the outside wall featuring an extension of the mural bringing the Shake Shack magic outside, even if you’re waiting in line.
The location will serve up Alberta-exclusive treats, such as the Prairie Berry Shake, as well as all the classic Shake Shack favourites.

The process was seamless, and if you simply can’t wait to get home to enjoy your meal, there are plenty of parking spots (perfect for filming a Shake Shack mukbang).

Shake Shack has already proved immensely popular in YYC, with its first outpost in Chinook drawing huge lines for weeks upon opening, and we don’t imagine Macleod will be any different.

The new location is set to open at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, with grand opening celebrations, such as a ribbon cutting, taking place at 10:15 a.m. Throughout the day, there’ll be live entertainment to keep guests occupied while in line.
The first 100 vehicles to enter the drive-thru on opening day will receive limited-edition merch.

If openings in the area such as Chick-fil-A and Krispy Kreme are anything to go by, we anticipate that there’ll be some pretty big lines on opening day, so consider yourself warned.
