According to Environment Canada, “meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail, and heavy rain.”
The hail and wind has the potential to damage property and cause injury by tossing loose objects or breaking off tree branches.

As of 7:17 pm — when the City of Calgary’s warning was issued — the thunderstorm had been located 10 km east of Cochrane and heading east at 30 km/hour.
The warning stated that it was expected to impact the northern parts of Calgary this evening.
Those caught by the storm are encouraged to take cover indoors, as flash floods, lightning strikes, and large hail can all cause significant damage.
“Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!” the warning states.
