Over half of BC agrees with Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion: poll
A majority of British Columbians agree that the Trudeau’s approval of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion was the right call.
That’s one of the latest findings from a recent poll performed by the Research Co.
In an online survey, 56% of British Columbians agreed with the federal government’s decision. One-third (33%) of British Columbians were against the move and 11% remain undecided.
Two-thirds of those who agreed with the pipeline approval were men. The survey also found that most of them (66%) were above the age of 55 and from the Southern Interior (67%).
The majority of British Columbians (three-in-five), regardless of their decision, say that they were also disappointed in how the government handled the expansion.
“As expected, dissatisfaction with the way Ottawa handled this issue is practically universal among strong opponents (95%),” says Mario Canseco, president of Research Co. “But 50% of British Columbians who moderately or strongly support the expansion are also unhappy.”
More than 70% of British Columbians believe that the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline will create hundreds of jobs.
Three-in-five residents, however, don’t believe that the expansion will bring lower gas prices to British Columbia.
This poll, performed by the Research Co. from June 22 to June 26, 2019, took place with 800 participating adults in BC. According to the organization, data has been statistically weighted according to Canadian census figures for age, gender, and region in the province.
