One Rocky View County woman’s final act was saving the life of a three-year-old girl.

According to a release from Strathmore RCMP, a dog attacked the girl just after 6 pm on Saturday in a Langdon home. The dog’s owner, a 49-year-old woman whose relationship with the child has not been disclosed, had the dog turn on her instead, which ultimately led to her death.

She was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency crews arrived, and though the young girl was taken to hospital following the incident, her injuries were not life-threatening.

Two dogs were found at the home, and both have been put into quarantine in Calgary for further monitoring.

The release states that witnesses say the dog, a boxer-pitbull cross, had not shown signs of aggression in the past.

The name of the woman has not been released by police.
