It might literally be -12°C in Calgary right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t set our sights on brighter skies and warmer days.

Anyone who enjoys having those beautiful Rocky Mountains in their own backyard will want to get onto the Alberta Parks website sometime in the next month, as reservations are soon to open for summer camping at the prime spots around the province.

Regular camping reservations will open on Monday, February 5, with the regions being staggered throughout the morning and afternoon to ensure the website doesn’t crash from too many eager campers signing up all at once.

The south region will open for reservations at 5 pm, followed by the Kananaskis Region at 11 am, the Central Region at 1 pm, and finally the Northwest/east regions at 3 pm.

Comfort camping registration will not open until 9 am on Monday, February 5, and anyone hoping to secure a spot for May long weekend will have to visit the Alberta Parks website on February 20.

According to a release from the government of Alberta, last year broke a record with 164,000 online camping reservations.

They have since added 11 additional campgrounds and two more group camping areas – along with investing $239 million into improvements to existing sites throughout the province – but that in no way means you should wait to register.
