Well, that didn’t take long.
After Alberta Premier Rachel Notley announced yesterday that the province will immediately be halting any BC wine imports, people on both sides of the proverbial fence have been voicing their opinions.
Now, in the latest round of the war of words between Alberta and BC, people are voicing their unwavering support for BC wine with the hashtag #PinotnotPipelines.
By the way, if @RachelNotley ever wants to build a wine pipeline in EITHER direction we’re all on board for that!#bcpoli #ableg #WarOfTheRosés #toastthecoast #PinotNotPipelines

I’m in Montreal, QC and I bought BC wine because I support the opposition to the Kinder Morgan pipeline. #PinotNotPipelines #StopKM #BCWinePledge 🍷 pic.twitter.com/tK0gdwMFRn

So @RachelNotley is choosing to bully small local businesses to protect a giant Texas multinational corporation?
She’s pulling innocent Canadians into a conflict they have no part in. It’s embarrassing.#KinderMorgan #waroftherosés #toastthecoast #PinotNotPipelines #bcpoli

What did my @wildernews colleagues and I do upon hearing #Alberta‘s announcement?
Straight to the store for some BC wine!
Thanks for the encouragement @RachelNotley!#CabernetNotClimateChange #ShirazNotSuperTankers #PinotNotPipelines #ToastTheCoast #bcwine #StopKM pic.twitter.com/Tk3b6IHQlm

Thinking about a nice glass of Burrowing Owl Cabernet Franc or perhaps an Nk’Mip Pinot Noir…..for some reason.#PinotNotPipelines

First there was #KMFace now there’s #PinotNotPipelines. The campaign against Kinder Morgan is great not only because of the community resistance, but also the hashtags. #toastthecoast #stopkm pic.twitter.com/GzpOUYHDm2

Normally we drink beer at band practice but today we’re having BC wine to #toastthecoast #PinotNotPipelines #WarOfTheRosés #cbcgrapesofwrath #bcpoli @RachelNotley @jjhorgan #ableg #KinderMorgan #pipelines pic.twitter.com/e1o5UUr8im

Let’s be honest, #pinotnotpipelines is one of the best hashtags ever. Also, legitimately correct. More BC wine, less AB oil please. #toastthecoast #stopkm pic.twitter.com/mbHHXlkS7z
— David Turnbull (@david_turnbull) February 6, 2018
So let’s get this straight: BC government acts to protect it’s coast from oil spills. Alberta Premier Notley responds by boycotting BC wine? Fine, more wine for us! #toastthecoast #pinotnotpipelines #stopkm pic.twitter.com/k7EdYNy1oH
— David Turnbull (@david_turnbull) February 6, 2018
Hope you like the taste of that landlocked bitumen, @RachelNotley, because you can boycott all the BC wine you want and it won’t change the fact that #KinderMorgan will not be built.#PinotNotPipelines #toastthecoast #StopKM pic.twitter.com/SaNzs5O8KR

I’m a little concerned that this protest is too easy. But who am I to argue! #PinotNotPipelines #ToastTheCoast pic.twitter.com/yYGFleG7er

Alberta’s #BCWine boycott is about a politician bullying small businesses on behalf of a giant Texas oil company because another government wanted more science. #StopKM #IStandWithWine #ToastTheCoast ##PinotNotPipelines#cdnpoli #abpoli #bcpoli pic.twitter.com/lBXBNFlXOh

Notley made the announcement following a dispute between BC and Alberta that began with the BC government announcing restrictions on bitumen transports – a move that would stall the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
“The wine industry is important to BC,” Notley said in a tweet following the press conference. “Not nearly as important as [the] energy industry is to Alberta and Canada, but important nonetheless.”
