The new park is expected to open in 2019 in South Glenmore Park, becoming a fixture along the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway — a pathway that encircles Calgary and spans 138 km.
The bike skills park is being created through a partnership between the Calgary Parks Foundation and the Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance, and this is not the first time that the two organizations have worked together.
Both groups were instrumental in creating the city’s first bike park, The Fish Creek Mountain Bike Skills Park, which opened back in 2016.
Parking and washroom facilities will be located near the new skills park, and it will sit just south of the Elbow River.
Once complete, the new park is expected to be the size of two football fields and suitable for everyone from a toddler on a balancing bike to intermediate adult riders.
Both the Fish Creek skills park and the new South Glenmore skills park will be completely free to use.
