A new hotel is coming to Calgary, and this swanky destination brings together peak luxury with eco-friendly design.

The Element by Westin Calgary Downtown plans to open its doors early this summer on 4th Ave SW in Calgary’s downtown. Not only will this modern getaway be a killer place to lay your head for the night, but it’s also part of a bigger strategy.

Calgary’s Downtown Development Incentive Program has been bringing new life to the downtown core by converting underutilized office space into new commercial and residential buildings. This hotel will be transforming a barren 170,000 square feet into a luxe, eco-friendly hotel with 226 suites, a cafe, and a rooftop restaurant.

Not only will The Element help fill a growing demand for hotels in downtown Calgary, but it also aims to stimulate more economic activity.

“Bringing a refreshed and exciting new offering to Calgary’s Downtown West neighbourhood has been an incredibly rewarding experience—one that’s only just beginning,” says Tim Ostrem, general manager of The Element by Westin Downtown Calgary. “We look forward to introducing the Element brand to Calgarians as the ideal place to stay and relax with many wellness features, and as a place they can confidently recommend to friends and visitors.”

So, where does the eco-friendly part come in? Throughout the construction process, the hotel has been taking every step to reuse and salvage old materials, including some original artwork installations. The hotel also plans to reduce plastic waste by providing refillable glass water bottles for every room, and encourage car-free travel with a Bikes to Borrow program.

The Element offers spacious suites with fully equipped kitchens, a huge boon for anyone coming for a longer stay. The hotel will also offer its signature complimentary breakfast with hot foods, yogurt, granola and fruit, and an on-site gym so you can get in your daily sweat. The location is pretty unbeatable too, being right across from Prince’s Island Park with walkable access to downtown and the Bow River.

“As Calgary’s first hospitality conversion, the Element embodies the spirit of transforming existing spaces to serve new, meaningful purposes,” says Patricia Phillips, CEO of PBA Group of Companies. “Revitalizing urban areas and embracing sustainable design features are both critical to reinforcing the strength and adaptability of Calgary’s downtown. As an award-winning hotel developer and longstanding member of the community for over 60 years, PBA is proud to support progressive urban development through this innovative project.”

Whether you’re travelling to Calgary as a wedding party, for a corporate event, or you’re a local looking for somewhere nice to put up your relatives, The Element Calgary Downtown has a lot of comfortable options. Choose from adjoining suites, kitted out rooms with all the amenities of an apartment, and a handy Bikes to Borrow program that lets you explore the city on two wheels.

This new hotel also brings a couple more dining options to Calgary!

Enjoy the street-level views in this bright and airy space, which is perfect for people watching or hammering out a few emails. Of course, if you come by later in the day, you can try one of their craft cocktails instead.

The cafe will be open to both guests and the public, so locals can check it out too.

The hotel will boast Calgary’s newest rooftop restaurant and bar, the Bow & Bend. Enjoy sky-high views of the Bow River from the 12th floor. Open to hotel guests and Calgary natives alike, this new dining experience seats up to 150 people with both indoor and open-air seating, along with private dining options.
