Apr 23 2021, 5:09 pm

New Calgary restaurants? Those are our three favourite words.

We’ve gone and collected a list of all the new YYC restaurants you should look into trying.

There is always a lot of chowing down for us to do in this city, and these new eateries make our to-eat lists longer than ever.

Here are eight new Calgary restaurants for you to try right now, or in the near future.

Open

Mondays Plant Café

Mondays Plant Café is officially open and operating in Calgary’s Bridgeland. The newly branded concept was formerly Raw Eatery & Market. Last month its team announced it would be leaving its Kensington space of five years. The rebrand and new Bridgeland cafe came soon after, and Mondays was born. Now, the 208 4 Street NE spot is open and serving up plant-based and raw eats for pickup when you order online or for delivery via Skip The Dishes.

If you’ve had a donair-shaped hole in your heart since Halifax’s King of Donair stopped streaming its 24/7 spinning wheel of meat, then you’re in luck. The famous Canadian donair shop has officially opened in YYC, and people are loving it so far. Calgarians can find King of Donair’s new spot at 503 17 Ave SW. Head there to enjoy a menu of signature donairs, pizza, garlic fingers, and more.

A new rooftop bar is coming to Calgary, and it looks epic. While specific details around The Rooftop YYC are still under wraps, it appears that the Ceili’s Downtown team is responsible for bringing this stunning spot to the city. Sprung Structures constructed the massive tent that’s now home to The Rooftop YYC on top of Calgary’s 5th Avenue TD Canada Trust building.

This 17th Ave address has been home to some iconic venues over the years (Melrose Cafe & Bar’s iconic patio and upscale French restaurant Royale have both lived at this spot). Now it looks like something new is coming to the space, by way of “modern nostalgia” restaurant, Porch.

We love a bit of mystery, don’t you? This new concept from the Concorde Group is keeping things seriously under wraps prior to its spring opening. What we do know, is that patrons can expect to enjoy what Major Tom Bar has to offer “40 floors above it all.”

Pablo Cheese Tart

The Osaka-based brand is known for its “revolutionary cheese tarts” and cheesecakes in various flavours and sizes, and it’s set to open later this year at 602 16 Avenue NW in Calgary.

The Halal Guys

The Halal Guys is opening its first Calgary location soon, and that means folks in YYC will finally get a taste of the iconic brand’s delicious eats. The food cart turned fast-food chain originated in NYC in the ’90s and has since amassed a cult-like following. Its menu is popular for sandwiches and platters packed with chicken and/or gyro.
