'We need you': Calgary restaurant owner pleads for help after bank accounts allegedly drained

A Calgary restaurant is calling on the community for help after its bank accounts were allegedly drained fraudulently last week.

In an Instagram post on Friday, June 27, the owner of Moonlight & Eli, a Bridgeland cheese fondue and champagne bar, Mhairi O’Donnell, shared that the business accounts had been drained, leaving them with no money.

While she added that she was sure there was a solution and they would eventually be able to recover the missing funds, she called on the Calgary community for help in the meantime.

“There is a solution, I’m sure, that is brewing and we’ll get our money back and everything will be fine, but between now and then, we have to pay rent and payroll. I need to make sure my staff is ok,” she said.

“I’m really sad. I’m so sorry to ask. I need you. We need you.”

In order to help bridge the gap, Moonlight & Eli and its sister spot Varbar in the Richmond neighbourhood will be offering $40 all-you-can-eat fondue this weekend.

The spot will also be offering happy hour pricing on its wines and $12 champagne bongs.

Spaces are booking up quickly, so be sure to snap up a spot.
