Canadian delicacies and former New York Times food critic Mimi Sheraton are not getting along. The vocal foodie has taken aim at another provincial favourite, and Quebeckers think she’s barking up the wrong tree.
Last week, the ex-food critic took to Twitter to compare Montreal bagels to “broken glass” and the internet reacted accordingly.
The author of 1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Die was back on Twitter yesterday, this time going up against maple syrup.
Yuk and Yuk again to Ranch Dressing! Plays to everything that’s wrong with the typical American palate.
Even worse than maple syrup if that’s possible.

Some Canadians, still fuming about the great bagel war, reacted only the way we should when people trash our beloved maple syrup: hilariously justifiably.
Maple syrup? Are you serious? How egregiously wrong is your palate?

How can you associate ranch dressing with maple syrup? Next time, will it be tartar sauce and honey? Fluff and olive oil?#nimportequoi #timetoretire #notbuyingthatbook #MontrealbagelsareTHEbest #maplesyrupisagiftfrommothernature

Every year 2 cases of maple syrup are sent to the Queen of England…yes, Queen Elizabeth. One year, only one case was sent and her people were fast to question the error. True story. #somebodyLovesCanadianMapleSyrup

From here on, we’d recommend staying away from this trend, Mimi. What’s next, our smoked meat?
