New McDonald's location opening near Calgary and it's going to be so unique

A brand-new McDonald’s location is set to open just outside of Calgary, and it’s going to be unlike any other we’ve seen in the province.

The new Golden Arches outpost will be coming to Buffalo Run on Tsuut’ina Nation land. In a first for the province, Tsuut’ina design has been incorporated into the project.

The design has been guided by the Tsuut’ina-Taza Cultural Advisory Working Group, a collaborative body which is committed to ensuring the respectful inclusion of Tsuut’ina language, traditions, and protocols.

McDonald’s is collaborating with the working group and Taza Development Corp on the restaurant’s architectural plans with the aim of honoring the Nation’s identity.

Just some of the inclusions will be murals created by local artists, as well as signage that includes the local Tsuut’ina language. There will also be quick-service dining and drive-thru capabilities to serve the local community.

“It’s an honour to bring this restaurant to life in partnership with Tsuut’ina Nation,” says Scott Winhold, McDonald’s Calgary franchisee.

“From the very beginning, this project has been about more than building a restaurant – it’s about creating a space that reflects and respects the community it serves. We look forward to opening our doors and building meaningful connections with the community.”

Construction on the new location is slated to begin later this month, with the aim of opening before the year is out.
