Famous Japanese Udon restaurant is opening in Calgary but we'll have to wait a little longer

Earlier this year, a world-famous Japanese restaurant revealed that it would be opening its first Calgary location this year, but now it appears that we’ll have to wait just a little longer.
While initially touted to open in 2025, Marugame Udon has shared that its first Calgary location will now be opening after the holidays.
“What is holding things up is exactly what you’d expect. Final construction details, permit sign offs, and taking the time to properly train our team,” Marugame said on Instagram.
“We are putting a lot of care into this because your first visit matters. We want the noodles, the service, and the whole experience to feel like Marugame, not almost Marugame.”
While Marugame hasn’t revealed an official revised opening date, it assured fans that it would be welcoming them to its first YYC outpost in the “very near future.”

Marugame Udon is setting up shop at CrossIron Mills, right next to Miniso.
The noodle spot first opened in Japan in 2000, where it gained recognition for its Sanuki Udon, a style originating from Kagawa Prefecture in southern Japan.
It sticks to the basics, making everything in-house, including its noodles, which, in true form to tradition, are made with just flour, water, and salt.
Since its conception, Marugame has opened over 1,000 restaurants, spanning several continents. In each of its restaurants, diners can watch its hand-crafted udon bowls and tempura being prepared right before their eyes.
After years of anticipation, Marugame opened its first Canadian outpost in Vancouver last year to much fanfare.
We’re looking forward to finally welcoming Marugame Udon to the YYC food scene.
