Perfect for the young, and the young at heart, the 36-acre Granary Road opened up this past June, offering Calgarians a great family-friendly destination for learning and exploring. Now another phase, the Market, is opening to the public.
Featuring epic interactive and super active zones that range from giant spider webs you (well, your kids) can climb, along a petting zoo, walking paths, and tons of playground-inspired learning structures for plenty of exploring, Granary Road is also going to offer some top-level Albertan food vendors in the centralized public market space.

Although the Market had been aiming to be open sooner this summer, visitors to Granary Road have been able to check out preview events, and mini-markets set up in the courtyard, along with some concessions inside the Active Learning Park, too. Granary Road announced that the Market space is open as of Thursday, August 17.
The Public Market showcases numerous vendors familiar to Calgarian shoppers and foodies, from Calgary Mini Donuts to Heart’s Choices and A Taste of Quebec, and several more. The Bistro at the Market has a full service menu, and there are several projects forthcoming situated inside the Market at Granary Road that are operated by Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts. Those will be opening soon, starting with the Urban Butcher, which is one of their projects within the Market also launching August 17.
Here’s what’s in store for those exciting concepts, according to a CRMR release:
The Loft Bakery
Filled with sweets, croissants, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, freshly baked bread and complemented by the wafting aroma of locally sourced coffee, The Loft Bakery will keep you fueled throughout your time at Granary Road.
The Loft Kitchen
For those on the go or in a time crunch, The Loft Kitchen offers a quick moving counter-service lunch stop that features carefully crafted fresh sandwiches, soups and salads that are built to order as well as pre-made and packaged items. A carving station is incorporated into the Kitchen component of The Loft, so be sure to expect deliciously hot and flavourful sandwiches filled to the brim with freshly carved and locally sourced meat.
The Loft Lounge
Perched among striking wood rafters, take in the hustle and bustle of the market below while relaxing at your table with a cold beer or glass of wine. Enjoy expansive views of the surrounding landscape while dining on our refined, yet casual dishes made with ingredients sourced from local producers. The Loft Lounge is the place to be to enjoy a couple moments to yourselves.
Urban Butcher
Armed with the belief that the kitchen should not be an intimidating space, Urban Butcher offers the finest quality cuts of ethically and naturally raised local meats, including Alberta Beef, pasture raised pork, free range, free run, organic poultry products, various deli products fresh from our own smokehouse, pre-marinated items that are ready to cook, as well as recipes to inspire your next meal. Urban Butcher is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts family of companies and is led by Chef Lancelot Monteiro and Master Butcher Bob Choquette.
Bin 905
Bin 905 is one of Calgary’s premier wine shops offering unique bottles of wine from select and exclusive producers. The expert staff will help you pair and explore boutique wines, premium spirits, and craft ales. The store features a large selection of wine under $30 as well as rare and fine wines. Bin 905 has two locations: Mission & Granary Road Market.
Sound good? Definitely lots of delicious things to look forward to. In the meantime, until we can roam the Market space itself, check out a few shots of what it’s like at Granary Road’s Active Learning Park:
