Milan Lucic isn’t ready to call it a wrap on his NHL career just yet.

The 37-year-old bruiser, who last played in the NHL during the 2023-24 season, has signed a professional tryout offer (PTO) with the St. Louis Blues in an attempt to extend his playing career.

After spending four seasons with the Calgary Flames, Lucic signed a one-year deal to reunite with the Bruins ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. It wasn’t the return he was hoping for, however, as he suited up for just four games.

Lucic wound up suffering an ankle injury that cost him several games before being arrested in November of 2023 for a domestic incident after his wife, Brittany, had phoned Boston police to report the alleged assault. She claimed that her husband, who was intoxicated at the time, had pulled her hair and attempted to choke her. Lucic was said to have grown irritated with Brittany after not being able to find his phone.

The veteran NHL forward wound up having the case against him dropped in February of 2024, but never returned to the ice for the Bruins. He and Brittany remain together, and she has made posts in recent months praising him for getting sober.

Lucic had been looking to return to the NHL ahead of the 2024-25 season, but needed league commissioner Gary Bettman’s approval in order to return. He has seemingly gotten that, given today’s news from the Blues.

Lucic, who won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins back in 2011, has suited up for 1,177 career games, racking up 233 goals and 586 points. Along with the Bruins and Flames, he’s also spent time with the LA Kings and Edmonton Oilers.

The Vancouver native will be looking to earn a contract from a Blues team that finished the 2024-25 season with a 44-30-8 record. They were able to finish in the second wild card spot in the Western Conference before being ousted by the Winnipeg Jets in Game 7 of the first round.
