Calgarians can get low-cost, walk-in counselling for Mental Health Week

People can often be barred from the help that they need simply because of the cost.

Calgary’s own Serenity Now Wellness Foundation is working to fix that. To accomplish tat goal they will be offering low-cost, walk-in counselling for those who may need it during this year’s Mental Health Week.

On May 8, 9, 12, and 13, Calgarians can walk into the non-profit organization’s 9th Avenue location to speak with an experienced psychologist or masters practicum student.

A release from Serenity Now Wellness Foundation states that the walk-in appointments are ideal for anyone hoping to talk through a current problem they are facing or to develop coping strategies.

If the walk-in sessions are successful during Mental Health Week, there is the possibility that they will become a permanent resource offered by the foundation.

“I’m excited to pilot this walk-in service and we hope that it is something we can continue to offer,” said Dr. Jennifer Mitchell, supervisor of practicum students and provisional psychologists at Serenity Now Foundation.

“Our goal is for clients to leave feeling more grounded, empowered and equipped with materials and resources for the next steps in their mental health.”

Sessions will cost $50, and will be available from 2 to 8 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
