After more than half a century, Lloyds Rollersports Centre will be closing its doors permanently.

The popular roller rink is a favourite in Calgary for birthday parties, exciting evenings, and first dates, but has now set February 18, 2018 as the day of its last dance.

“Thank you to all of our loyal customers over the last 53 years,” read a pop-up notification to anyone accessing the roller rink’s website. “Lloyds Recreation will be permanently closing. Our last public skating session will run Sunday, February 18th from 1:00 – 6:00.”

In a comment on a Facebook post the roller rink explained why Lloyd’s was closing after so many years.

“Owner passed..building sold.”

Many who had visited the rink in years past have been leaving comments recalling their great memories from the rink, and are sad that it will be closing down.

“Saw you will be closing your doors and honestly it made me emotional. I remember going to your rink in my teens, and a trip with my parents, and seems like we always went in a group,” wrote Tammy Niemi Dingman in a post.

“Such wonderful memories and well it has me feeling my age. Sending nostalgic memories and wishes for an amazing future for all the staff past and present. The end of an era but so grateful for the memories I had within those walls.”

There is still a few months to enjoy the rink before those doors close, though, so you’ve still got some time to lace up those blades and take a trip out to Lloyds for one last skate.
