Japanese eatery and convenience store to close in Calgary this month
A Japanese-style convenience store and eatery is closing in Calgary, less than two years after opening its doors.
Koko Japanese Eatery + Convenience, the sister brand to YYC’s beloved Ryuko restaurants, has revealed it will be closing its location at 620a 17th Ave. SW at the end of September.
“After an incredible journey, it’s time for us to say goodbye to KOKO. Our final day will be Sept. 30,” the spot said on Instagram.

After first opening in January 2025, Koko is a one-stop shop for quick bites such as onigiri and sushi, as well as hearty dishes, such as ramen and don. It also offers a variety of popular Japanese snacks.
“To everyone who has supported us, shared meals with us, brought your friends and family, and made KOKO part of your days, thank you!! We’re incredibly grateful for every visit, every kind word, and every memory made here,” the Koko team added.
While Koko will surely be missed on 17th Avenue, many similar dishes will still be available at Ryuko.
