Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has announced that non-essential businesses are to close effective immediately.

Kenney stated during his daily COVID-19 update on Friday, that hair salons and barbershops, tattoo and piercing salons, wellness centres, and aestheticians are among the service providers ordered to close.

Additionally, all non-emergency and non-critical health services provided by a regulated health professional or licensed provider are ordered to close as well. This includes massage therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, dentistry, and optometrists.

Non-essential retail stores like book stores, hobby stores, clothing retailers, and other stores will also be closed.

Gatherings have also been reduced to a maximum of 15 people — down from Alberta’s previous 50.

All dining rooms in restaurants still open are ordered to close immediately, with only take out and delivery allowed under the new measures.

These closures are subject to enforcement through the recently announced penalties for those who are not following the guidelines and public health orders that have been released.
