Family first.

The Calgary Flames are in Los Angeles for a Monday night game against the Kings, but their best player is in New Jersey.

Johnny Gaudreau has returned home to be with his father Guy, who suffered a cardiac event on Sunday, the team announced.

“Mr. Gaudreau is currently undergoing medical procedures and John will remain with his family until further notice,” the Flames announced. “The family appreciates the many well wishes and also requests privacy at this time.”

Guy Gaudreau is a former hockey coach, stepping down from Gloucester Catholic high school last year to spend more time with his family.

Calgary has lost five games in a row, likely ending any possibility at a postseason berth this season. They’re nine points away from the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, with just six games to go.
