Italian Centre Shop Calgary temporarily closes after several employees test positive for coronavirus

Alberta-based food store and to-go eatery the Italian Centre Shop has temporarily closed its 9919 Fairmount Drive SE Calgary location, due to several employees testing positive for COVID-19.

In a statement posted online, the popular marketplace says it will be closed from today until Friday, November 6, at 9 am, something they are calling a “pro-active response to a number of team members testing positive for COVID-19 within a short period of time.”

The Italian Centre Shop says Alberta Health Services did not require they close their doors, but out of an abundance of caution the store chose to do so to deep clean, sanitize, and encourage the rest of its employees to get tested.

According to the shop’s statement, four employees have tested positive on presumptive coronavirus tests.

“On Thursday, October 29 we were informed a team member tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19; that team member’s last day worked was October 27 and as a precaution, we asked staff who may have been in contact with this team member to self-isolate and be tested.

In the past 48 hours we have been informed of three additional positive COVID-19 cases within our Calgary team. All three individuals are self-isolating at home and on the road to recovery.”

Last week Alberta saw another record-breaking day for coronavirus cases.
