It’s become a staple of winter visits at Lake Louise, but the iconic ice castle on the edge of the lake is no more after collapsing over the weekend.
Videos posted to social media captured the structure falling apart in a pool of water on the lake, sparking sadness from some who have come to see the castle on the world-renowned lake.
The lake Louise castle only lasted 10 days this year due to unseasonably warm temperatures. Usually it will stay until late march! pic.twitter.com/78KjyQxa6W

A quick glance at the livecam from the hotel also showed a large perimeter set up around what remains of the ice castle Monday afternoon.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
Daily Hive reached out to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, which builds the castle as part of its Ice Magic event as part of the larger SnowDays festival held from January 17 to February 2, 2025.
“Due to recent unseasonably warm weather, the current ice conditions have been unable to sustain the ice castle,” said Kymberley Hill, director of public relations for the hotel.
“The safety and wellbeing of all our patrons is of the utmost importance, and over the past several days, our team closely monitored the situation and restricted access to this section of the natural skating rink.”
Although the ice castle is gone, the nearby rink is open to guests and visitors for skating.
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise also acknowledged that the icy castle is a popular sight for winter visitors of Lake Louise. Still, no decisions have yet been made as to whether it’s possible to repair or replace the ice castle structure.
