Here's how to book an appointment for Alberta's COVID-19 vaccine

Feb 24 2021, 6:54 pm

Alberta seniors born in 1946 or earlier are able to begin scheduling their COVID-19 vaccine appointments on Wednesday through Alberta Health Services.

All seniors over the age of 75 can book appointments online or by calling HealthLink at 811. Availability will be determined by vaccine supply.

Vaccination appointments are offered seven days a week, between 8:30 am and 3:40 pm. As Alberta receives more vaccine doses, hours are expected to expand.

“Access for eligible seniors to receive a vaccine is crucial. Please reach out to seniors who are 75-plus in your life and offer assistance if they need help with their appointments,” says Josephine Pon, Minister of Seniors and Housing, “For seniors who have no means of getting to a vaccination appointment, help is available.”

Upon booking their appointment, seniors will be directed to the vaccination clinics that are closest to where they live. There are 58 vaccination sites throughout the province to ensure that locations are convenient for people to get their dose close to home.

Isolated seniors and those who have mobility challenges can call 211 for information about finding a ride to their appointment.

“Having more vaccine arriving in our province means we can continue protecting our most vulnerable citizens as quickly as possible, starting with those who are most at risk of severe outcomes,” says Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health.

“Immunizing our seniors against COVID-19 is another important step forward in keeping our families, our communities and our health-care system safe.”

Alberta Health Services is offering the vaccine to anyone living in retirement centres, lodges, supportive living, and other congregate living facilities where there are residents aged 75 or older.

In these locations, where older seniors are interacting with residents under the age of 75, health officials will offer the vaccine to everyone residing in the facility.

This is being done in order to reduce the overall risk of disease transmission, severe illness and death. AHS will contact these facilities directly to arrange appointments.

As of February 22, 180,755 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, with 73,718 Albertans having received the two doses that are required to be fully immunized.

More details about the vaccine and online booking links can be found on the government’s vaccine information page.
