Fill up ASAP: Gas prices are going up over the weekend in Alberta

If you’re a driver in Alberta, you may want to fill up your tank before the weekend, as gas prices are set to rise in both major cities today and tomorrow.

According to the gas price forecasting site Gas Wizard, the price of gas is expected to jump by six cents over the course of the weekend in Calgary and Edmonton.

In Calgary, regular gas is set to increase by three cents on Friday and another three cents on Saturday, bringing the total to about $1.27 per litre. Premium will rise by six cents over the next two days to $1.50 per litre, while diesel will see a one-cent increase on Saturday to $1.45 per litre.

Edmonton will see a similar climb. Regular gas is expected to rise by two cents today and four cents tomorrow, reaching $1.25 per litre by Saturday. Premium will increase by the same amount, reaching $1.55 per litre, and diesel is predicted to go up by one cent on Saturday to $1.43 per litre.

While a six-cent increase is spooky, the gas prices elsewhere in Canada are far more frightening. In Vancouver, one of Canada’s most expensive cities to fill up, the price of gas is set to rise by five cents over the next two days, up to a bone-chilling $1.61 per litre for regular gas.

So, while it’s Friday and Halloween plans might be on your mind, it could be worth stopping at the pump, or you may give your bank account a real fright! With winter fast approaching and a busy holiday season around the corner, we’ll take any savings we can get.
