A popular chain known for its burgers and frozen custard is gearing up to open its first Alberta location later this year.

In 2023, it was revealed that Kansas-based chain Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers would be making its way to Alberta, and now we finally have details.

While it aims to open over five locations in the province, the chain’s first Alberta location will launch just outside of Calgary, in Okotoks.

Ted Tomanik, Alberta area franchise owner, told Dished that construction on the location is expected to begin by the end of June, with a targeted opening date in September.

Albertans will soon be able to get their hands on signature, made-to-order steakburgers. Unlike regular burgers, steakburgers often use different cuts of meat, such as sirloin or ribeye.

It also serves hot dogs, shoestring fries, and a whole lot of frozen custard treats from sundaes to concretes.

“We look forward to introducing Freddy’s concept and delicious menu items to the community,” Tomanik said.

He added that while there aren’t any more confirmed sites for Alberta just yet, Freddy’s is actively looking, so watch this space.

The Okotoks outpost will be Freddy’s second Canadian location and its first in Western Canada. Freddy’s has just opened its first spot north of the border in Winnipeg.
