The hockey season may be over, but Calgary Flames prospect Dustin Wolf isn’t done collecting accolades just yet.

The AHL announced earlier today that Wolf is the recipient of the 2023 President’s Award. The award has been handed out annually since 2009 to the organization and/or player for overall excellence in the past year.

After an outstanding rookie season in the AHL, Wolf managed to improve even further in year two. In 55 games with the Calgary Wranglers, the 22-year-old compiled a 2.09 goals against average (GAA) along with a .932 save percentage (SV%) and a 42-10-5 record. Thanks to the great year, he was named the AHL’s top goaltender for the second straight season.

Wolf continues to look like a better selection by the Flames with each day that passes. Despite excellent numbers in the WHL, he fell to seventh round of the 2019 draft where the Flames scooped him up at 214th overall. Many at the time were worried about his small stature, but he has quickly proven that he can be an elite goaltender regardless of his size.

Given his success in each of his two seasons in the AHL, Flames fans are hoping that Wolf will be given an opportunity with the big club out of training camp this fall. While he certainly appears ready for the task, the Flames have two other goaltenders on NHL contracts: Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar. They are rumoured to be shopping the latter, but if a deal isn’t made, Wolf may be on the short end of the stick given that he is waiver eligible.

Regardless of whether or not Wolf is with the Flames from the get-go this upcoming season, he is an extremely exciting prospect. Though he only has one NHL game to his name at this time, he has all the capabilities to be a star in the future.
