The Calgary Flames’ newest defenceman can finally take a break from doing laundry.

Jake Middleton arrived in Calgary earlier this month ahead of his first season with the Flames, but his move to the city didn’t exactly go according to plan.

While Middleton made the trek from Minneapolis to Calgary on his motorcycle alongside his father, his belongings took a much slower route.

As a result, the 30-year-old was forced to spend his first two weeks in Calgary living out of essentially one overnight bag.

“Everything I shipped hasn’t shown up yet […] I’ve done quite a few loads of laundry and worn the same clothes since Sept. 1,” Middleton told Sportsnet’s Eric Francis.

And he wasn’t exaggerating.

The veteran defenceman revealed Thursday that he finally received his belongings two days ago, just in time for the start of Flames training camp.

“I got it two days ago. I sat around for two weeks doing nothing, then the day before camp they dropped off my 25 boxes of goods,” Middleton said with a laugh.

At least the timing worked out.

Middleton’s wife and daughter arrived in Calgary on Thursday, meaning they were finally able to see their new home with all of their belongings actually inside it.

“I picked my wife and daughter up today; they’ll be excited to see what I’ve got going on at the rental house,” he said.

Though it wasn’t the arrival he was expecting, the boisterous blueliner took it all in stride.

“A little adversity early is good for everybody, right?”

After two weeks of waiting, Middleton’s Calgary move is finally starting to feel like a move.

His family is here, his 25 boxes have arrived, and he can finally put the washing machine away for a little while.
