The Calgary Flames have made another round of cuts, and a few high-profile prospects were involved.
A total of 11 players were cut from the team on Tuesday afternoon, and four of those players will hit the waiver wire. This comes with the Flames’ regular-season schedule set to open up on Oct. 8 in the Alberta capital against the Edmonton Oilers.
Prospects Samuel Honzek and Hunter Brzustewicz were among the biggest cuts.
The #Flames have assigned 7 players to the @AHLWranglers and placed 4 players on waivers for the purpose of reassignment to the Wranglers.

Here is the complete list of players cut from the roster, and who exactly will be hitting waivers:
Assigned to AHL’s Calgary Wranglers:
- Hunter Brzustewicz (D)
- Nick Cicek (D)
- Artem Grushnikov (D)
- Sam Honek (LW)
- Aydar Suniev (LW)
- William Stromgren (LW/RW)
- Owen Say (G)
On waivers for reassignment to AHL:Â
- Sam Morton (D)
- Yan Kuznetsov (D)
- Dryden Hunt (LW)
- Clark Bishop (C)
This is the second significant round of cuts for the Flames, having cut 13 players on Sept. 26. Â
Both Honzek and Brzustewicz appeared in NHL games last season, and the hope was that they would push for more time this season. They didn’t quite make enough of an impression to stick around until the final cuts.
Calgary is now in the final stretch of its preseason, with just two games left on the schedule before they open up the regular season. A total of 27 players remain on the roster (15 forwards, nine defencemen, three goalies) with top prospects like Zayne Parekh and Matvei Gridin looking to crack the NHL lineup.
Flames fans are likely to get a good look at both those players when the Flames host the Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets for their last two preseason games on Wednesday and Friday.
