The Calgary Flames made several roster cuts today as they continue to prepare for the 2025-26 season.

The Flames announced on Friday morning that 13 players from camp have been reassigned to the Calgary Wranglers. Here’s a look at all 13:

  • Basha, Andrew (LW)
  • Bell, Parker (LW)
  • Ciona, Lucas (LW)
  • Frk, Martin (RW)
  • Gallant, Alex (RW)
  • King, Carter (C)
  • Mack, Simon (D)
  • Morin, Etienne (D)
  • Murphy, Connor (G)
  • Poirier, Jeremie (D)
  • Sergeev, Arsenii (G)
  • Silye, David (C)
  • Wilkie, Carter (C)

None of these cuts comes as a major surprise. Several were expected to be veteran players on the Wranglers, while a number of prospects the Flames are high on, including Basha, Morin, and Sergeev, have yet to play professional hockey.

With these 13 players being reassigned, the Flames are now down to 21 forwards, 13 defencemen, and four goalies.

Remaining training camp battles

Starting with the goalies, the battle is for the backup position. Dustin Wolf has cemented himself as the Flames’ number-one option going forward, though both Devin Cooley and Ivan Prosvetov are vying to play behind him. Prosvetov has made two appearances to Cooley’s one thus far in the preseason.

Several players are vying for spots on the back end, including Zayne Parekh, Ilya Solovyov, and Yan Kuznetsov. Both Jake Bean and Daniil Miromanov, who were with the Flames for the 2024-25 season, aren’t considered locks to crack the roster.

There are a number of intriguing battles up front, as well. The likes of Rory Kerins, Sam Morton, and Justin Kirkland are all fighting for a spot. The same could be said for Adam Klapka, though his two-year, $2.5 million extension signed in the summer helped his chances.

The Flames have four exhibition games remaining on their schedule, the first of which will come on Saturday night versus the Winnipeg Jets. Next week will see them take on the Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks, and the Jets again, before their season opener on Oct. 8 versus the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place.
