"Emotional support Canadians" are volunteering to help their US neighbours on election night
The 2020 US presidential election has been a stressful one, and some Canadians are offering to comfort their southern neighbours as the two nations anxiously await results.
The phrase “emotional support Canadian” was trending on Twitter on election night, when the race between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden was still too close to call.
“Emotional Support Canadians are on standby. If you have not yet received your Emotional Support Canadian, one will be assigned to you shortly,” user @Darth_Pingu tweeted.
