The 2020 US presidential election has been a stressful one, and some Canadians are offering to comfort their southern neighbours as the two nations anxiously await results.
The phrase “emotional support Canadian” was trending on Twitter on election night, when the race between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden was still too close to call.
“Emotional Support Canadians are on standby. If you have not yet received your Emotional Support Canadian, one will be assigned to you shortly,” user @Darth_Pingu tweeted.

Some Canadians offered comforts like snacks and alcohol, while others volunteered more destructive coping techniques, including offering to “burn the White House down again.”

If you need an Emotional Support Canadian: I’m available.
I’ve had a couple edibles, and I’m sipping some rye and water, so expect me to listen more than advise.
