RCMP in northern Alberta say a driver was caught driving at a speed of more than 200 km/h over the weekend.

Mounties say on Saturday, while conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 2, east of High Prairie, a High Prairie RCMP officer noted a vehicle driving at 207 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

The driver, a 23-year-old male Fairview, Alta., resident, was issued two court summons for driving carelessly and speeding.

“We want to take this opportunity to remind the public of the dangers of driving at these excessive speeds,” said Cst. Stephen Zuk of the High Prairie RCMP Detachment.

“Reaction times are lowered, and other drivers, not anticipating such speeds, can thus miscalculate their manoeuvres and be put in danger. We will keep up with our ongoing traffic enforcement efforts in order to maintain safe roadways for all.”
