Calgary is getting another drive-in movie experience

As recommended by health officials, if you choose to participate in events outside of your home, please adhere to COVID-19 health and safety measures, including proper physical distancing, mask-wearing, and frequent handwashing. If you are sick, please stay home.

Calgary is sadly not home to a permanent drive-in movie theatre, but, lucky for us, lots of local venues work hard to bring this tradition to YYC.

Canyon Meadows Cinemas is the latest spot to announce a drive-in movie experience, with their first screening coming up next month.

Under the Government of Alberta’s current public health restrictions, Canyon Meadows Cinemas isn’t able to open their theatres for regular movie viewing, so they’ve gotten creative and have planned to set up drive-in shows in their parking lot.

Canyon Meadows Cinemas, best known for being Calgary’s “cheap theatre” with $5 movies every day of the week, will be presenting two drive-in showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on May 8.

Tickets run at $35 per vehicle, and the first feature is at 9:20 pm, with an encore screening at midnight.

Tickets can be purchased on the Canyon Meadows Cinemas app, and concession items are available online for preorder, to be ready for curbside pickup upon arriving at the event.

The cinema says that it plans to do more shows in a drive-in format over the upcoming season.
