New coronavirus outbreak detected at hospital in Edmonton

An update from the Province of Alberta has supplied new info on coronavirus cases in the province.

According to Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw, there have been 47 new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of known cases to 7,276.

However, of that total, only 371 are still active.

Hinshaw also noted that a new outbreak had been detected at a unit in the Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, with four staff members testing positive for coronavirus. No patients have tested positive.

There were no new deaths over the past 24 hours, leaving the total coronavirus-related deaths to 151 in Alberta.

Of those deaths, 111 were in the Calgary zone, 16 in the north zone, 13 in the Edmonton zone, 10 in the South zone, and one in the Central zone. A total of 116 were from continuing care facilities.

To date, over 310,000 tests have been completed in the province, 6,582 of which were completed over the past 24 hours.
