Calgary cafe closing next month after nearly a decade in business

Calgary has seen some sad restaurant closures of late, but the latest announcement will be a huge loss for the plant-based community.

Mondays Plant Cafe, a popular Bridgeland plant-based cafe, has revealed that it will be closing its doors in August after almost a decade.

“After nearly 10 magical years, we’re announcing that August will be the final month of business for Mondays Plant Cafe,” owners Megan Pope and Ali Magee said in an Instagram post.

While the closure may come as a shock to many, Pope and Magee added that it was a conscious decision they had made to start a new chapter.

“This decision comes with heavy hearts but also full ones. We’re deeply proud of everything we’ve created, and we’re ready for a new season. We want to be transparent that this is a choice we made for a new chapter, not a corner we were backed into,” they added.

The move comes just a few days after Mondays released its first cookbook, sharing fan-favourite recipes served at the cafe over the years.

The spot is known for its plant-based takes on dishes, including its BLT with marinated tempeh and coconut bacon, ricotta toast with cashew ricotta, raw tacos, and raw lasagna.

Mondays Plant Cafe will remain open through August, so for those looking to say goodbye to the space, there are still a few weeks left.
