Calgary hosts Winterpalooza organized by Cyclepalooza February 13-17

Believe it or not, but there are Calgarians who ride their bikes year-round.

Whether it’s for commuting to work in sub-zero temperatures or taking a leisurely trip along the frozen Bow River, these winter riders brave the cold (and potential slippage) to get from A to B time and time again.

Calgary is all set to see a festival celebrating winter biking starting this Thursday, February 13 and running through the Family Day long weekend.

Winterpalooza has been organized by Cyclepalooza and will feature a number of winter biking events, including panels, rides, and brewery hits.

Thursday, February 13

Winter Biking 101 Panel

What: Learn about the ins and outs of winter biking at this free panel at Bike and Brew.

Hot Chocolate Ride

What: Go for a trip around downtown and enjoy hot chocolates at multiple locations.

Friday, February 14

Winter Bike To Work Day

What: Pledge to ride your bike to work this Friday and stop by Eau Claire Market for food, warm beverages, and vendor tables.

Time: 7 to 9 am
Where: Eau Claire Market (or just bike to work)
Admission: Free

Snow Suit and Scotch Ride

What: Start the weekend off on the right pedal by joining in on a ride to a few choice spots to sip some choice scotch.

Saturday, February 15

What: Join an adventure to three of Calgary’s favourite breweries — Inner City Brewing, Marda Loop Brewing, and Establishment Brewing.

Family Day Fun

What: The whole family is invited out for a 2.7 km ride from Delta Garden into East Village, making a pit stop at Simmons Building and ending at East Village Playground.
