WestJet adding more flights from Calgary to sunny destinations this winter

If you’re thinking of heading somewhere sunny this winter, there are now more options to choose from as WestJet significantly increases flights from Calgary.

The airline says it is growing its Calgary capacity 18 per cent compared to last winter, with several of the biggest increases coming from additional flights to and from Mexico.

Some additions include twice-daily flights between Calgary and Los Cabos, as well as increased daily flights to Cancun and non-stop service between Calgary and Merida, which was announced in July.

Beginning this winter, WestJet will also launch non-stop service between Calgary and Sao Paulo, Brazil, the only direct service between Western Canada and South America.

The airline says that the approximately 14-hour flight will also give Calgary travellers access to more than 60 additional destinations across South America through WestJet’s partnership with LATAM.

“As demand for sun travel continues to grow, we’re proud to offer our most comprehensive Latin America and Caribbean schedule yet,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group executive vice-president and chief commercial officer.

“By increasing capacity and continuing to expand access between Canadians’ favourite vacation destinations and the communities they call home, we’re making it easier for more guests to travel where they want, when they want.”

WestJet is also increasing its sun destination capacity by 77 per cent in Saskatoon, 64 per cent in Regina, 26 per cent in Winnipeg and 34 per cent in Edmonton.
