Calgary Ukulele Festival 2019

What: The second annual Calgary Ukulele Festival features workshops, concerts, the Ukulele Community Theatre, and more. Instructors at this year’s festival includes Australian duo Jack n Jel, Manitoba Hal Brolund, Stu Fuchs, and Magnolia Buckskin. Attendees can also enjoy hula demos and open mics.

The Mashing

What: Alberta Beer Festivals presents The Mashing, a sampling event featuring a wide variety of distilleries, breweries, restaurants, artists and community. There will also be live music, DJ sets, photography walls, art installations, and more.

Luzia by Cirque Du Soleil

What:Running at Stampede Park through September 15, the delightfully imaginative and visually stunning production LUZIA takes the audience on a journey to an imaginary Mexico. With beautiful visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, the show cleverly brings to stage the places, faces, and sounds of Mexico. LUZIA is Cirque du Soleil’s 38th original production since 1984, and its 17th show presented under the Big Top.

Circle the Wagons

What: Join the BassBus, YYCFoodTrucks and Village Brewery for a travelling carnival with local food, beer, music, art, and entertainment. September 13 is Adult Night from 4 to 10 pm, where you must be 18+ to attend, while September 14 is all ages from 11 am to 10 pm.

Toronto-based electronic trio Keys N Krates will be headling the festival this year with a performance September 14. Other notable acts coming to the stage this year include Jocelyn Alice and The Librarian.

What: Broadway Across Canada presents the RENT 20th Anniversary Tour. This Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning original rock musical will be at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium from September 10 to 15. RENT follows the lives of seven artists who struggle to chase their dreams in New York City without selling out. The show was ground-breaking at its time, opening its first show in 1996. Written and composed by Johnathan Larson, it was a memorial to his friends who died from an epidemic of AIDS.
