Augtober alert: Calgary forecast to see temperatures plunge big time

Aug 11 2026, 5:00 pm

While August is a typical summer month, it’s looking a little chilly here in Calgary this week, with rain clouds forecast to roll in and bring cooler temperatures.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), you may want to break out your raincoat over the next few days, and it’s going to feel like we skipped past September and went straight into October for a bit.

ECCC says that the average high for this time of year in Calgary is 23°C, and the average low is 9°C, and Calgary is pushing towards the low end of that scale over the coming days.

Tuesday, Aug. 11 is coming in with a 60 per cent chance of showers in the city with a daytime high of 19°C, followed by an overnight low of 11°C.

Wednesday, Aug. 12 follows suit, with a 30 per cent chance of showers during the day and periods of rain overnight. The high is set to hit just 15°C, followed by an overnight low of 10°C.

Thursday, Aug. 13 brings more rain and the coldest temperatures of the week, with the daytime high hitting just 12°C, followed by a chilly nighttime low of 9°C.

Looking at the daily data report for the same day last year, things were much warmer, and Aug. 13 saw a high of 22.6°C recorded at the Calgary International Airport station.

Daytime temperatures start to pick up on Friday, Aug. 14, with the high hitting 18°C, and 21°C on Saturday, Aug. 15, with a mix of sun and clouds, but drop back down to 10°C overnight on both days.

The rain is set to come back on Sunday, Aug. 16, with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 20°C, followed by a low of 11°C. It’s looking like rain is going to continue into next week, with Monday, Aug. 17 expecting a 60 per cent chance of showers.

The summer weather in Alberta has been a little wild this year. Edmonton even broke a 73-year summer rainfall record, and if you wanted to peep the early fall forecast for Alberta, it’s looking pretty saturated, too.
